Can You Bet For a Living With Hedger Pro?

If you're a follower of Hedger Pro, you've likely asked yourself this question at some point: Is it possible to use Hedger Pro to create a full-time income you could actually live on, or at least make enough to pay your significant monthly bills?

For me, this is the number one reason anyone would use Hedger Pro. Whether you're planning to build your bankroll from a small balance and grow it incrementally, or you're ready to go with a sizable investment, the goal is the same: to make it worth your while.

This post is the kick-off for a new conversation thread for Hedger Pro members and followers. Over the coming weeks and months, I'll be sharing my progress as I build betting systems that I believe have everything I need to generate a monthly income. My starting point is simply to make enough to pay my bills.

I've learned a lot since I first started using Hedger Pro, and through a period of trial and error, I've found more consistent and reliable ways to get the best performance from the software. (On a side note, the Portfolio Bet systems will benefit from this soon as they get a complete rework with a new starting logic. The principle for each system will be the same, but the application will be quite different, and I'll explain it all when the update is live for members.)

The "Betting for a Living" Project

So, can we make enough money to live on with Hedger Pro? My answer right now is a definitive yes, and I believe there are multiple ways to achieve this. The best use of this space is to share my experience building systems that are, in plain sight, making the kind of money that pays my bills.

Starting from a blank slate, I will test my ideas and share the concepts I'm working on right here on Substack. I'll also create a consistent flow of "How To" videos covering Hedger Pro's features. Combined, these resources will give you all the tools you need to do the same, or even better, and reach your own financial goals.

My process for creating a new Hedger Pro Research System will always be:

  1. Fully tested using a three-month "anti-backfit" period.

  2. One week of live betting at a £1 stake per bet.

  3. Review and align the live betting results with the research data to ensure there are no anomalies.

  4. Increase my stake to whatever level I decide is right for the system. I'll typically raise it to £10 for a week or two, and then, once I'm confident, I'll lift it to £50 depending on the overall performance.

My ultimate aim is to reach a top level of a £100 stake per bet within two to three months.

As this thread develops over time you will be able to see for yourself my failures and success in building a portfolio that generates the income level I am aiming for.

My New Approach to System Creation: A Look Behind the Curtain

I've mentioned in the Telegram Group that I've developed a new approach to system creation. Let me share the core concept of what I've been working on here. I'll also show you the live portfolio results for what I'm creating, so you can see the methods I've been discussing in both back-tested and live environments.

Some might say this is a lot of unnecessary pressure, but my reply would be this: I want to use Hedger Pro to make this money for my own expenses, because I believe in the software's ability to do so. And I'm not afraid to fail a few times along the way. In fact, I expect to, because anything worthwhile has a path of failures on the way to success.

Putting myself out there to work on this project is a main motivational driver. I want to help you reach your goals by using the incredible systems creation and bet automation software that Hedger Pro truly is. If I can get more people using Hedger Pro to create their own unique betting systems with the methods I share, I'll be delighted.

These concepts, once you've made them your own, won't be just a simple "import and use" system. They'll be bespoke to you, with your own stamp and complete understanding of how your daily betting should look. This will make your portfolios stronger and give you all the tools you need to manage them to their optimum capabilities.

The system shown below is modular which you will see, and is simplicity in itself with only the necessary dynamic filters, and the rest based on a single minded concept using a maximum of six filters outside the necessary set in stone few filters such as odds, MTP, and in the case of this system Course.

Why Now? The V1.6 Relaunch

So what's given me the spark to start this "betting for a living" project now, at V1.6? The platform is very stable after a series of updates, and the sheer volume of filters and angles we can take to build new systems has not even been scratched. While V1.7 is on the way with even more benefits, there’s nothing holding us back from starting now.

What's really put a rocket under me is the desire to get everyone making some decent, consistent profits with Hedger Pro, which will in turn help elevate everything we do for you. It will create a winning culture where we all stand on each other's shoulders to keep moving the development of Hedger Pro higher and higher. Why wait? Let’s start now.

Let me share some information on my latest development with some numbers. The results below are from a system currently in its first-month test phase, betting at a £1 stake per bet.

My New Lay Betting System: DailyR2RLays2

  • Yield: Approx. 10% (excellent for a lay system)

  • Average Odds: 7.23

  • Bet Volume: 7.6 bets per day

  • Strike Rate: 92.61%

  • Max Drawdown: Only -4 points over a 54-month period

  • Average Profit Per Annum: +£242

  • Total Profit: £1,090 over 54 months

ree

What excites me most about this system is its consistency and scalability. With such a low Max Drawdown (MaxDD) and strong strike rate (SR), I can easily ramp up my stakes.

ree

At a £10 stake per bet, the average profit jumps to £2,422 per annum, with a very manageable MaxDD. This is already more than covering the cost of an annual Hedger Pro subscription.

ree

At a £50 stake per bet, the average profit is £12,111 per annum. This is now paying the mortgage and bills. With a total MaxDD recorded to date of just -£220, I would be more than comfortable with this level of investment risk versus reward.

This system is a fixed-liability laying system, which makes it highly scalable to move to BSP (Betfair Starting Price) with much higher stakes. This has to be a key criterion for any of my new lay betting systems.

The Power of a Modular Approach

You might be wondering how I built a system that performs like this. It’s made up of 59 individual betting systems, one for each UK racecourse. Each system uses the same framework of filters, but with a few specific adjustments. My process makes tuning any part of the system a million times easier while also allowing for additional backing and laying strategies to be built around it without much overlap. This is what I call a modular approach.

I focus on one particular concept on the same course with my limited filter set up, and aim to achieve roughly the same end goal. That’s literally it, and something I will do again and again as I expand more on this portfolio over time. It also makes it much easier to assess every outcome and avoid potential duplicate betting situations.

ree

I'd advise you to try this yourself. Set a specific goal and use a small group of filters to test your theories. For example, what happens if the last-time-out favourite didn't win? Does that horse come back with something to prove, or was it over-hyped? Hedger Pro is superb at helping you test these precise ideas with exact data.

To help you get started, here is a list of 10 off the cuff concepts you can explore within Hedger Pro. You can stack a handful of filters around each idea to potentially create 10 new systems for each course.

I’ll admit I have put what I think are banana skins in here as well as some solid ideas, but if you manage to get all 10 ideas singing off the same hymn sheet showing safe and consistent profits, do please let me know as I’d be very impressed.

10 Betting System Concepts to Explore

  1. The "Last Race Form Reversal" System: Look for horses that finished in the top three in their last race but are now priced as significant underdogs (e.g., odds of 11.00 or higher).

  2. The "Favourite's Lay" System: Lay the favourite in races with a large field (e.g., 10+ runners) or when the favourite is very short-priced (e.g., 3.00 or shorter).

  3. The "Beaten Favourite" System: Back horses that were the favourite last time out but lost, on the theory that the market may be overreacting to their previous poor performance.

  4. The "Second Favourite Value" System: Back the second favourite, especially in races where the favourite is very short-priced (2.50 or shorter), as the market may have undervalued the second favourite.

  5. The "Short-Priced Lay" System: Lay the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th-ranked horse by odds in races where the favourite is extremely short-priced (2.00 or shorter).

  6. The "Back-to-Back" System: Test horses that won their last race and are racing again within a very short period (e.g., within 7 days).

  7. The "Short-Priced Outsider" System: Back horses at very long odds (e.g., 26.00 to 51.00) in races with a few very short-priced favourites, betting on a market upset.

  8. The "Field Size and Position" System: Test if horses from low stall numbers have a higher win rate on specific tracks and distances, especially in large fields.

  9. The "Class Drop" System: Back horses that are dropping down from a higher class to a lower class, as they might be undervalued despite recent poor form.

  10. The "Handicap Underdog" System: Back horses in a specific odds range (e.g., 11.00 to 21.00) in large-field handicap races, where the competition is fierce and an underdog can often win.

Hopefully, these concepts give you some interesting starting points. I'd be very interested to hear your feedback and what you discover. If you're ready to start your own system-building journey and don't have the tools yet, you can take a free trial of Hedger Pro and see for yourself how powerful it can be.

A Look Ahead

To wrap up, this post is an introduction to the "Betting for a Living With Hedger Pro" thread. Next week, I'll continue by diving into more detail and possibly recording a video of my live testing process. I’ll aim for Tuesday’s each week ideally.

To reiterate the potential, let's look at my DailyR2RLays2 system at a £100 stake per bet, which is my aim for the coming months. The average profit is £24,222 per annum, with a MaxDD of just -£440 over the entire 54-month betting period. This shows what can be achieved.

The purpose of today's post is to demonstrate the potential of Hedger Pro, give you creative examples for testing your own concepts, and show that it's possible to build systems that are scalable enough to return the sort of profit you and I want to be banking.

If you're inspired to start building your own systems, consider joining the Hedger Pro community and get a head start on your financial goals.

Thanks for reading. All feedback and comments are very welcome—let's open a new discussion and enter a new phase of Hedger Pro usage!

Cheers, Ryan
